The annual Grade One Registration Exercise was scheduled to take place during the period of March to May, 2020. However, this activity, among others has been disrupted by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the precautionary guidelines issued under the Disaster Risk Management Act (Enforcement Measures) Orders and Instructions 2020.
In light of this, school administrators are being advised to facilitate the registration of students at the Grade One level during the month of August 2020. This should be guided by a flexible schedule that allows for social distancing and other safety precautionary measures consistent with the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Principals of primary schools may develop their registration schedules in collaboration with the principals of the neighbouring Infant/Basic/Early Childhood Institutions to facilitate a safe and structured process.
Primary schools with online student registration systems may commence their registration process as scheduled. However, school administrators must ensure that allowances are made to facilitate those parents/students who do not have access to this facility.
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is in discussion with its educational partners to assist all schools to digitally transform their administrative processes, as this is an imperative for the way forward.
We stand ready to provide further guidance and support during this unprecedented period. For further queries please do not hesitate to make contact with your regional office.
