The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information has established partnerships with several tertiary institutions focused on continuing to strengthen the capacity of teachers across the education system to:
- Manage Learning Management Systems; and
- Plan lessons and engage students in learning in an online environment
To this end
- 120 teachers selected from the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of the education system will be trained as trainers by the UWI Open Campus to support on-going professional development of teachers focused on strengthening their capacity to plan and engage learning in an online environment
- 17,000 primary and secondary teachers will be able to participate in one of a series of certificate programmes (16 - 18 hours in length) which will be offered in four phases:
Phase One July – August 2020
Phase Two October 2020
Phase Three February 2021
Phase Four May 2021
All programmes will be delivered online using synchronous and/or asynchronous methodologies.
Each training has been designed to target a specific group of teachers based on the programme outline. The details are provided below. Teachers are being asked to use the link provided to register for the programme. Teachers will be accommodated in each phase on a first come first served basis. Therefore, once Phase One is full, teachers will be automatically registered in the next available phase.
