ENROLMENT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2022/2023

Grades 7 to 13 Cohorts

For the Academic Year 2022/2023, 197,594 students were enrolled in the formal public education
school system at the secondary level (Grades 7-13) from all seven regions (see Table 1). Of these
students enrolled, 98,964 were males and 98,630 were females. Of the overall student enrolment,

grades 7 to 11 amounted to 180,175 (91,258 males and 88,917 females) whilst grades 12 to 13

accounted for 17,419 (7,706 males and 9,713 females). The Grade 11 cohort was 35,768 (17,854

males and 17,914 females).

Region 1 has the largest number of enrolment with 26% of the combined enrolment in public
schools. The enrolment percentage for the other regions are, Region 6 (16%), Region 4 (15%), Region

5 (13%), Region 7 (11%), Region 2 (10%) and Region 3 (9%). (see Figure 1).
