Karl Samuda Now Education Minister

The Hon. Karl Samuda has been appointed Minister of Education, Youth and Information.

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, made the announcement during a meeting with Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) Board members on Wednesday (June 17) at the institution’s Palisadoes Park address in Kingston.

Minister Samuda has served as Minister without Portfolio with responsibility for Education since March 2019. Prior to that, he was Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.

Prime Minister Calls For Public Adherence To Curtail Spread Of COVID-19

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, is encouraging individuals and establishments to comply with stipulated safeguards outlined by the Government to curtail further spread of the highly infectious coronavirus (COVID-19) in Jamaica.

His appeal comes against the background of two persons being arrested and charged for breaching regulations under the Disaster Risk Management Act.

Speaking at a press conference at Jamaica House on March 23, the Prime Minister emphasised that making arrests “is the last thing I want to do”.

PM Says COVID-19 Has Made Tremendous Impact On Country

Two weeks after Jamaica’s first imported coronavirus (COVID-19) patient was confirmed, Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the disease has made a tremendous impact on the country.

Jamaica’s first patient tested positive on March 10. To date, 21 cases have been confirmed by the Government.
